The winners of the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year Awards for 2024 were announced on Thursday 18 January, as the best professionals from the automotive industry gathered at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, in London.
These awards are a culmination of 12 months of rigorous testing by experts who have driven hundreds of new and updated cars back-to-back with their competitors. With 22 different categories, the primary objective of the What Car? Car of the Year Awards is to guide consumers in making informed decisions when purchasing their next vehicle.
This year, the coveted title of Car of the Year went to the Lexus LBX. The Lexus LBX competes in the highly popular small SUV market and stands out as the first vehicle of its kind to seamlessly blend hybrid efficiency with big-car luxury.
Speaking on the win, Steve Huntingford, Editor at What Car? said: “At a time when new car prices seem to be going through the roof, [the Lexus LBX] offers these strengths for an amazingly tempting price.”

Other notable wins included: Porsche 718 Cayman GTS as the Sports Car of the Year, BMW X7 40d M Sport (Ultimate Pack) as the Luxury Car of the Year, and MG 4 EV SE as the Small Electric Car of the Year.
