Haymarket celebrates the United Nations SDG Flag Day 2023

Offices around the world raised a Flag and showed Haymarket’s commitment to tacking gender inequality, the climate crisis and access to quality education

Monday 25 September marked eight years since the world adopted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and with just seven years left until 2030, these 17 Goals are a crucial roadmap for a sustainable, fair and inclusive society.

Since Haymarket launched its Impact agenda in March, its entire sustainability focus has aligned around the UN SDGs. So, when the UN Global Compact Network UK brought the SDG Flag Campaign to the UK for the second year running, we were eager to get involved.

The campaign was brought to the UK for the first time in 2022 and saw 200 SDG flags from 97 organisations raised across the UK. By raising a SDG Flag, Haymarket demonstrated its commitment to the Global Goals and the action already underway to combat major global challenges including climate change, gender inequality, and lack of access to a proper education.

With only 1 in 10 people in Britain familiar with the SDGs, raising the Flag is essential to raise awareness and mobilise action. The SDG Flag Campaign depicted the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, as it marked the half-way point to the deadline set for achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Haymarket’s offices in the UK, US, Hong Kong and Singapore eagerly involved themselves with the Campaign, while using the day as an opportunity to remind ourselves our global Impact agenda is focusing on those four SDGs where right now, we feel we can make the most meaningful difference. These are: SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 5: Gender Equality; SDG 13: Climate Action; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The UK held a drinks and networking celebration in its Twickenham HQ, the US hosted a SDG Flag Campaign breakfast, while colleagues in Hong Kong and Singapore held a drop in Q&A about the Global Goals. And there was certainly no shortage of participation!

By raising the SDG Flag, we joined hundreds of other business in showing our commitment to the Global Goals and the actions already underway to combat major global challenges, including climate change, gender inequality, and lack of access to quality education.
