MM+M holds its ninth annual Women of Distinction and Women to Watch programs

Now in its ninth year, the MM+M Women of Distinction and Women to Watch programs celebrate 55 healthcare marketing executives who have significantly impacted their organizations during the past year.

Both programs celebrate the individuals whose leadership, creativity and insight lift everyone they encounter.

The Women of Distinction program honors individuals who have held top leadership roles over the course of their careers, while Women to Watch celebrates the leaders of tomorrow.

This year’s honorees hail from all corners of the medical marketing world, setting the bar high, both for their peers and generations to follow.

“There are industries where the percentage of women-led organizations is frustratingly low. Happily, medical marketing is not one of those industries,” said MM+M editor-in-chief Larry Dobrow. “For the ninth year in a row, we’re thrilled to be able to showcase the leaders whose creativity and spirit set the bar high, both internally and among their peers.”

Honorees were celebrated at The Lighthouse at Pier 61 on Thursday, June 13.

Carolee Lee, CEO and Founder of Women’s Health Access Matters (W.H.A.M.), and a TIME100 Health honoree, delivered a compelling keynote speech. She addressed the longstanding research gap in women’s health, advocating for equitable clinical trials and highlighting WHAMS’s “3 Not 30” initiative aimed at accelerating change.

“3Not30” is an ambitious effort that aims to bridge the gap in women’s health research and access within three years. In response to calls from WHAM and other advocates, the Biden Administration has allocated $200 million in funding for women’s health as part of the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research.

An engaging panel discussion provided invaluable insights into how women have secured and retained C-suite positions in healthcare organizations. Panelists shared the strategies and tactics that helped them achieve success and the adjustments they made—or didn’t make—to maintain their positions.

Panel speakers included Adele Gulfo, Sumitomo Pharma America, Inc.; Maria Simeone, PulsePoint; Melissa Gonzales, Myriad Genetics; and Christina Valley, Healthline Media.

Following the panel discussion, MM+M Women to Watch and MM+M Women of Distinction honorees accepted their awards.

Haymarket’s own Jenny Ko, Senior Vice President, Commercial Excellence, was among the honorees.

“I am honored to be among these amazing women leaders in Pharma who are not only making an impact on healthcare, but who also make an impact every day on the people they work with, as mentors and advocates,” Dr. Ko said.

Carol Soreca, VP, custom programs, PRI Healthcare Solutions, was also among the elite group of honorees this year. Carol is known in the medical communications industry for outstanding customer service and commitment to her clients.

The program was “a wonderful tribute to so many incredible women but more importantly an opportunity to give thanks to many other empowering women in our industry and beyond who work as compassionate advocates for their families, friends and colleagues,” Carol said.
